چکیده

Constant coefficient method is the traditional way to measure the persistence of inflation series. But this kind of method can not reflect effectively the change of breakpoint and economic situation. To the lack of the existing methods, the paper examines the breakpoint change in the coefficient of inflation persistence in the United States, and at the same time studies the changes of persistence characteristics of United States inflation rate by using time-varying coefficient model. The analysis shows that there exists breakpoint change in the inflation persistence coefficient in the United States; inflation persistence coefficient in the United States ranges from 0.7132 to 0.8826; the persistence coefficient continued to decline in the mid2008, and etc.

Can Univariate Time Series Models of Inflation Help Discriminate between Alternative Sources of Inflation

When it comes to measuring inflation persistence, a common practice in empirical research is to estimate univariate autoregressive moving average (ARMA) time series models and measure persistence as the sum of the estimated AR coefficients. We examine four potential sources of lag dynamics in inflation: the evolution of policymakers‟ willingness to stabilize output, shifts in the mean inflation...

بررسی رابطه انحرافات نرخ ارز و ماندگاری تورم در ایران

The main goal of this paper is to study the relationship between exchange rate misalignments and inflation persistence in Iran. In order to achieve this goal, we first use a non-linear smooth transition regression model to estimate equilibrium exchange rate in the context of a monetary model for the period 1978:2-2012:1. This allows us to compute exchange rate deviation from its equilibrium lev...

Product Market Regulation, Trend Inflation and Inflation Dynamics in the New Keynesian Phillips Curve

In this empirical paper, we take a close look at the impact of observed changes in the product market regulation, which raises barriers to entry and empediments to competition, on inflation dynamics since the early 1980s. We use an enlarged new Keynesian Phillips curve (NKPC) allowing for entry of firms and for increasing competitive pressures with the number of firms and non zero trend inflati...

Misalignment on the Persistence of Inflation in Iran

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of exchange rate misalignment on inflation persistence. For this purpose, Vector Auto Regression method and Markov Switching model is used for quarterly data during 1989:4 -2014:3. The results show that, the impact of liquidity growth and exchange rate misalignment on inflation persistence is positive. On the other hand, GDP growth has a ne...

Measuring the Slowly Evolving Trend in US Inflation with Professional Forecasts

Much research studies US inflation history with a trend-cycle model with unobserved components. A key feature of this model is that the trend may be viewed as the Fed’s evolving inflation target or long-horizon expected inflation. We provide a new way to measure the slowly evolving trend and the cycle (or inflation gap), based on forecasts from the Survey of Professional Forecasters. These fore...
